7 Haunted Hip-Hop Beats perfect for Halloween
It’s that time of year again so if you’re looking for the perfect Halloween soundtrack we’ve plucked out 5 beats that are heavy on the horror and go fully in on the fear factor. So strap yourself into a stretching rack as we hit you up with some hip-hop beats to truly unnerve you.
1: GraveDiggaz – 6 Feet Deep
All of the Gravediggaz music leans heavily on the horror. I mean they practically invented the subgenre Horror Core. This track produced by Frukwan, lifted from their 1994 LP of the same name stands out as being particularly unhinged with its discordant tripped-out piano and weird string loop.
2. Breez Evahflowin’ – Forsaken
New York rapper Breez Evahflowin conjures up sonic imagery of an exorcism with this poignant 90s banger. The spiritual piano loop perfectly compliments the “Why has Thou forsaken me” vocal sample. When combined with the hard boom-bap drums it’s time to start praying to your maker
3. The Creators feat Phil Da Agony – Kronkite
UK Hip-Hop producers The Creators team up with LA rapper Phil Da Agony for this heavy dose of gothic harpsichord boom bap. Of all the musical instruments the Harpsicord screams out horror and Halloween better than any other. And that’s what you’re getting here along with some equally sinister strings in this hardcore homage to horrorcore.
4. Ghostface Killah – Beware of the Stare
This Adrian Younge produced scorcher uses live instrumentation to conjure up a truly nightmarish musical vision. Sounding like the soundtrack to a grindhouse Horror double bill Ghostface perfectly compliments this sinister sounding (de) composition with equally dark lyricism.
5. Big L – Danger Zone
Big L launched his solo career claiming to be the Devils son and this beat certainly has a demonic dimension. Featuring Harpsichord and minor strings this beat is full of suspence and intreage. The perfect music bed for Big L’s twisted lyrical flows.
6. Beyonce feat Sean Paul – Baby Boy (Mystery Machine Remix)
I’m sure you will know the original version of this track with its Bollywood inspired groove. In this remix by Si Spex it’s given a whole new spooky spin. The melody is inspired by the groovy underscore featured in the cartoon Scooby Doo. Again, the harpsichord is used to great fearful effect.
7. Nas – Hip-Hop is Dead
In this up-tempo ode to the death of real Hip-Hop, Nas spits over a sample of the always menacing song In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. Not the original by Iron Butterfly but instead a cover by Apache famed conga troublers The Incredible Bongo Band. This beat screams top notch terror and foreboding.
