Beatmaker Focus: Killem Dafoe
One of the hardest things in hip-hop production is to create beats that sound as though they have been sampled but are actually original. Well, this producer is a true master when if comes to this science.
Killem Dafoe is a UK based producer/multi-instrumentalist and founder of The NUVU Collective. His musical journey started at 8 years old when he started to play drums. At age 15 he heard the album Enter The 36 Chambers and it changed everything. The inspiration from this album changed his musical direction and he ventured into producing Hip-Hop. In love with all genres of music and becoming familiar with different instruments over the years he began experimenting by creating his own samples. His style is firmly rooted in the traditions of 90s era Hop-Hop and its reliance upon Soul, Prog Rock and Jazz recordings.
Highly regarded as a leading crate-break inspired sample maker, Killem attempts the impossible by convincingly modelling the dusty sounds of yesteryear. This has led some to believe he has access to a fully funk-tioning time machine set to 1971.

As well as a sample maker, Killem is also a highly skilled and accomplished producer. His beats and samples have been used by a number of artists to include: Russ, CRIMEAPPLE, C-Lance + Merkules, Kool G Rap, King Magnetic and The Soloist.
Killum is very much a quality-over-quantity beatmaker, and his beats are not widely available. But at RouteNote Create, Killem has blessed us with a hand-picked selection of serious heaters. If you are an aspiring artist looking for the dopest, most authentic sounding boom bap or soulful RnB beats, but don’t want the sample police knocking on the door, then you NEED to investigate his beats.
