“Groove is in the Heart” is a seminal early 90’s dance classic that remains a firm floor-filler. If you are a keen sample historian you may know that the song’s infectious bassline is lifted from “Bring Down the Birds” by Herbie Hancock. You may even be aware that the drums are sampled from Vernon Bunch’s “Get Up“. But what about all those deep-cut samples?

Well, one such tiny yet integral sample snippet is the “Ah AhAh Ahha Ahhhhh” sample as featured in the chorus. In this video short, producer, DJ and part-time sample sleuth Luxxury reveals that the sample is lifted from the theme music to a 60s TV show called Green Acres and the Ahhhh is snatched from a line sung by Eva Gabor.

And in classic 1990’s style, Deee-Lite gave it the stuttered sample trigger effect. To hear this sample in action check out the video below. And, for a full breakdown of the myriad of samples used in “Groove is in the Heart” check out Whosampled.com.
