Roland release the TR-1000 drum machine
The long-awaited return of an analog beast from Roland has finally come to an end. Meet the TR-1000 Rhythm creator, the drum machine that combines vintage flavour with the latest modern advancements.
This latest addition to the TR line-up is the first in 40 years to feature true analogue voices, along with the latest digital sound and sampling technology, and a performance-focused interface.
Under the hood
- Analog power: Contains 16 legendary analog circuits from the 808/909 era, recreated faithfully with modern up-to-date components.
- Digital muscle: 21 circuit-bent TR models built with Roland’s ACB tech, FM percussion, VA tones, and a huge PCM library.
- Sampling beast: 64 GB of onboard memory, 2,000 samples, plus stereo sampling tools, time stretching, slicing, resampling and non-destructive editing. There is also 46GB of free space for your own material.
Sound Shaping
The TR-1000 isn’t just a drum playback device – it’s a sound-design wonderland. Each track is loaded with filters, EQ, compression, envelopes, and the ability to stack multiple sound generators on a single track. For unlimited control over how your rhythms hit, Roland has added an analog state-variable filter (SVF), dedicated drive, and piles of digital FX (delays, crushers, flangers, and more). On four of the tracks, you can actually stack two sound engines or run them separately – each with its own FX, sidechaining, output routing, and even a three-target LFO to get seriously wild with modulation.
Sequencing
It still has the classic TR workflow, but expanded. Program beats fast, perform them live using the TR-1000’s ergonomic panel, or get weird with new off-grid groove options, per-step probability, and motion recording to capture live parameter changes for modulation and movement. Two standout tricks are:
- Morph slider: tie multiple parameters together and twist your patterns on the fly.
- Snapshot buttons: instantly recall knob positions for playable, real-time changes.
Studio & stage
The TR-1000 isn’t designed to be an isolated part of your setup – it’s designed to be your setup’s central hub. You get USB-C audio/MIDI, DIN sync, CV/trigger outs, multiple audio outs, and external ins, plus a companion TR-1000 App for detailed editing, backups, and sound management.
Oh, and it’s built like a tank: aluminium top, steel body, high-grip knobs and smooth,
responsive faders fanless design. Quiet, rugged, and future-proof with updatable firmware.
