7 Steps to Make Epic Basses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

How to: Reese Bass Tutorial<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to: Sine Compression Bass<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to: White Noise Bass<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kick Drum Tutorial<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Step One<\/strong>: Load <\/strong>a sine <\/strong>or triangle oscillator <\/strong>in Oscillator A<\/strong>. We recommend Analog_Bd_Sin <\/strong>for now, just so you can keep up <\/strong>with this tutorial<\/strong>. Paste <\/strong>a few notes <\/strong>on C3 <\/strong>so you have a sound source <\/strong>you can loop<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step Two<\/strong>: Inside Envelope One<\/strong>, lower <\/strong>the sustain <\/strong>& decay <\/strong>and add <\/strong>a slight bit <\/strong>of release<\/strong>. You’re going to be playing around <\/strong>with this a lot, so just get a shape <\/strong>that sounds right<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step Three<\/strong>: Route LFO 1<\/a> <\/strong>to Osc A Course<\/strong>\/Pitch<\/strong>. Make sure the distance between <\/strong>the two points <\/strong>of oscillation <\/strong>is low<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step Four<\/strong>: Inside the Matrix<\/a><\/strong>, change the “Type<\/strong>” of routing <\/strong>of LFO 1<\/strong> to unipolar <\/strong>(one way<\/strong>) and select “Macro One<\/strong>” under Aux Source<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step Five<\/strong>: Attenuate Osc A’s octaves – 3<\/strong>, play <\/strong>with the Macro 1 knob<\/strong>, lower<\/strong>\/raise <\/strong>the amount <\/strong>the LFO <\/strong>is modulating <\/strong>on OSC A’s<\/strong> pitch <\/strong>and change the shape <\/strong>of the LFO 1 wave shape <\/strong>until it sounds <\/strong>like the shape <\/strong>of a kick<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step Six<\/strong>: Now, in your Noise Oscillator<\/strong>, load up <\/strong>a kick transient <\/strong>from the Attacks_kick<\/strong> folder<\/strong>. This is a folder specifically <\/strong>for kick transients <\/strong>to give your kick <\/strong>the feel <\/strong>of a real kick<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click <\/strong>on the right-pointing arrow button <\/strong>to layer <\/strong>the transients <\/strong>in with Oscillator A<\/strong>, and raise <\/strong>the level <\/strong>of the noise oscillator <\/strong>until it sounds right <\/strong>for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now you’re at a crossroads. I want you to fiddle <\/strong>with your LFO <\/strong>& envelope shapes<\/strong>, play <\/strong>with Oscillator A’s semitones <\/strong>(+\/- 2<\/strong>), and play <\/strong>with the WT Pos knob <\/strong>inside Oscillator A <\/strong>until you get a kick drum <\/strong>that sounds badass<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step Seven<\/strong>: Move <\/strong>the Phase knob <\/strong>so that the phase is directly <\/strong>on one <\/strong>of the two peaks <\/strong>of your oscillator<\/strong>. This will add punch<\/strong>, and that’s what our kick drums love<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There we are! You should have a pre-processed kick drum<\/strong>. Continue to play with <\/strong>all of the parameters <\/strong>we have discussed <\/strong>until you get a kick <\/strong>that is right <\/strong>for the track <\/strong>you’re working on<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extra Steps<\/strong>: Apply<\/strong> compression<\/a><\/strong> & distortion <\/strong>to really glue your kick together<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
