Vocal Mixing Trick using Multiple Compressors
In this insightful short, Jerry from the Mix with Jerry channel, shares a great tip for more controlled vocal compression. While most of us will apply a single compressor to handle a vocal track, Jerry shows us the benefits of splitting up the compression duties.
In this demonstration, Jerry first adds a fast attack and release compressor (1176 modelled compressor) to bring down the peaks in the vocal without really touching the rest. Next in the chain, he introduces an LA-2A-modelled compressor and applies a gentle release. As the signal being fed into this second compressor is more compact and consistent the LA-2A just provides some subtle smoothing out of the vocal signal.
