With 500 Watts of power, the Darkglass Exponent e500 is taking bass amplification to a whole new level.

Effects included with the Darkglass Exponent e500 include reverb, chorus, flangers, filters, compressors, EQs, noise gates, and delays.

Other controls on the app are preamps, an envelope, an octaver, and the Darkglass CabSims. Darkglass plans to continue growing the list of effects with firmware updates.

Darkglass Suite unlocks the full potential of Exponent 500 by providing an interface to interact and modify the signal chain running on each preset.

Darkglass Electronics

Housed in a compact enclosure, controls for input and master levels sit on the front panel of the amp. Also on the front are knobs with the designations a , b c, d, and e also sit on the front panel too. The device illuminates these controls with LED rings so you can see where they’re set. These “Quick-Pots” are mapped to the amplifiers EQ’s four frequency bands. The fifth quick pot is a preset-specific control.

You can store up to 5 presets on the amplifier. The majority of factory sounds occupy basic functions like gain and EQ controls. On the other hand, you can assign the functions of the individual controls however you like.

App Control

On the rear of the amp, you’ll find a USB Type-C port and a MIDI input next to it. The MIDI input operates the device remotely! The XLR connection includes the Darkglass CabSim settings of the patches. A headphone jack, a send/return, and a Speakon connection too.

Without the Darkglass Suite app for iOS or Android, the Darkglass Exponent e500 can’t offer you much. You’d lose a lot of functionality for it to be a worthwhile purchase.
