Under Isotonik Studios, Riccardo Sellan (an accomplished sound designer) presents Lambda II. Made specifically for Ableton 10 & 11, Lamba II is a real-time granular effect plugin.

There’s quite an extensive range of features in Lambda II for such a small interface. But, ultimately, Lamba II is about granulating input signals in freeze or real-time mode with playable 8-voice polyphony, reports Gear News.

Isotonik Studios Lambda II

Though it’s small, it’s definitely mighty. Lambda II is a granular sampler that hosts features you’d see on a bigger granular synth. For example, you can play and sequence grains in 8-voice polyphony! Whether in real-time or from the frozen input buffer, Lamba II give you a lot of creative control.

It’s possible to sync grains with the tempo of your Ableton Live project tempo upon generation with step sequencing and MIDI input. You can feed your granularized input through various effect stages. To illustrate, you can pitch shift each voice, send each grain through delay and feedback, adjust the amplitude of each voice, apply stereo width, and send each voice through an 8 band-pass filter.

If you would like a detailed viewing of what you’re doing, you can use the onboard sonogram to visualise your activity.

But that’s not all! Other effects on the plugin include parameters Buffer Size (from 1s to 30s), Recycle (pre or post), Position (for random granulating), Duration, Density, Envelope (with attack and shape parameters), and others.

The pitch shifting effect allows you to transpose your granules by 2-octaved, you can fine-tune in cents, detune and glide too. You can use a different delay value for each individual grain, as well as adjust the interpolation time between one delay value and the next, and apply feedback on the delay network with randomness.
