SSL Big SiX: 12-Channel Analog Desk for Your Studios
With the same hybrid concept as the original SiX, but with more channels and more tweakability, the Big SiX is a dream come true for any modern workflow.
The Big SiX brings us twelve fully balanced input channels. These channels feature four mono channels, as well as four stereo channels, reports gearnews.com.
The mono channels have SSL’s “SuperAnalogue” microphone preamps, phantom power, and a high pass filter at 75 Hz. On top of these epic features, each channel packs 3-band EQs whose high and low bands can be switched between bell and shelf characteristics. Every mono channel also offers a one-knob SSL compressor too!
The stereo channels come with Hi-Z switches (which raises the impedance of line inputs to a suitable level for passive guitar and bass) as well as the 3-band EQs (excluding the shelving option). Each input channel also has a 100 mm fader and an LED level meter.
And we haven’t even mentioned the Integrated USB-C audio interface!
The Big SiX is designed as an analog frontend for hybrid DAW studios. So, it features a USB-C audio interface with 16 channels of AD/DA conversion. This creates opportunities for 18-channel stereo summing (the process of bouncing multiple tracks into the main mix). There is also a balanced insert and a simplified SSL Bus Compressor across the mix bus, and there’s a Mix Bus inject input for cascading several SiX and/or Big SiX mixers!
The Big SiX should begin shipping in about eight weeks. You can pre-order yours at Thomann* for €2999.
